Identity Politics Never Have A Happy Ending

Social Justice Warriors (SJWs) are fond of pointing out that the Dark Ages were punctuated by devout Christianity.  What they fail to see is that the teachings of Christ had very little to do with what made the Dark Ages dark.  The medieval Dark Ages had the same root as the Dark Age of the mid 20th Century; dividing the world into “us” vs. “the other;” the faithful vs. the heretical.

What further defined every Dark Age since the original Dark Ages was the certainty that there was one grand, unifying, unassailable Truth.  Furthermore, Dark Ages define a class of devout and knowledgeable citizens as Keepers of the Truth.  During the medieval Dark Ages, the Keepers were religious clerics.  During the Dark Ages of the 20th century, the Keepers were the party elite.  The Grand Inquisitors became the SS, Red Brigade, and now the Woke SJWs.  But the missions and ethos (or pathos as it were) remained the same; identify and purge the heretics for the common good.  With that context in mind, “cancel culture” should frighten everyone.

The video below explores this dark side of our nature through the narrative of the sublime children’s’ series, “Avatar; The Last Airbender.” [NB: The best social commentary, indeed the best stories of the last quarter-century have been books and movies for kids.  Why is no one writing or producing any thoughtful or original content for adults?]

The more we see anyone who disagrees with “us” as “the other,” the more we seek to punish whole groups of people for the sins of their long dead and forgotten ancestors, the further we travel down this dangerous path.
